The passing of photographer Dan Budnik (Aug. 14, 2020) evoked many thoughts about the political, social, and environmental issues that he so beautifully documented. In particular, his friendship with Pete Seeger and documentation of the campaign to clean and protect the Hudson River are particularly poignant. Below are a few images of the Hudson River sloop Clearwater, launched in 1969; the Clearwater has been the focus of environmental activism within the Hudson Valley for over 50 years, lifting the spirits of many school groups and others within the region and throughout the country. We were fortunate to be present at the launch and have followed the sloop up and down the valley whenever we get the chance.
